Though I thought myself over high fantasy after high school, I found myself thoroughly engrossed by Marks's believable world-building and endearing, intelligent characters. Especially intriguing: the elemental alignments really do have more to do with the magic user's personality and way of thinking than overt powers. Not to mention the successful inclusion of women and people of color and gay characters as perfectly ordinary parts of every walk of life even given the medieval-European-esque setting!

I'm so happy that Small Beer got ahold of this series and is finally fully publishing it!
