Despite having jobs and men that they love, Tibby, Lena, Carmen, and Bridget know something is missing: the closeness that once sustained them. Carmen is a successful actress in New York, engaged to be married, but misses her friends. Lena finds solace in her art, teaching in Rhode Island, but still thinks of Kostos and the road she didn't take. Bridget lives with her longtime boyfriend, Eric, in San Francisco, and though a part of her wants to settle down, a bigger part can't seem to shed her old restlessness. When Tibby sends the others plane tickets for a reunion they all breathlessly await, it will change their lives forever, but in ways none of them ever expected. The traveling pants are gone, but the sisterhood lasts forever.

[guessing at the star rating / mining my old FB notes now that they are almost impossible to find]

read for the mother/daughter bookclub, this was a kid's story stretching itself (too thin) to be a full-fledged novel. every plot point was excruciatingly drawn-out which might have been forgivable if wasn't so poorly written, and the conclusions so obvious. the characters are almost 30 years old now yet they are trapped in their teens/early 20's - shallow, insecure, irresponsible, and dead (that's an attribute for each of the four - so yes, one of them dies early on in this book) the ending has the survivors all living on the same piece of farmland that the dead girl bought specifically for them to share. so yes, an extended sleepover of sorts. in case i haven't made myself clear: i hated this book
