An extremely worthy denouement to an eerie and moving series. A little bit scientific survey, a little bit political drama, a little bit literary, and a little bit weird fiction — it's not simple trilogy to describe. The inner reflections and turmoils of the characters are much more studied than is typical of a genre book, their conclusions far more philosophical, and yet the landscape and situation is too undeniably alien and fantastical to mistake it for your typical literary fiction either.
So to those other inveterate genre-crossers and mixers out there, you other chasers of monsters and unusual ideas: read this book. Read all of them. Then be cautious of marshes.
