Joey McCarthy is stabbed to death in a seemingly random act of violence. Soon afterwards, Matt Stone's terminally ill mother dies and the sister of his best friend, Libby, commits suicide. When Matt moves into a shared house with Libby, both hope to leave these tragic events in their past. But within weeks DC Gary Goodhew finds the body of another suicide victim with links to both Matt and Libby, triggering a deeply buried memory of a previous case. Goodhew can't help but feel there is something connecting these deaths. And he can't escape the creeping fear that someone else is about to die ...
