I started the year with Atlee and I'm ending the year with her.

Baldacci does a great job developing characters. My favorites are Pine and her assistant Blum, who is definitely more than an assistant. Carol Blum is actually my favorite. She gets the best one liners. The new characters are also engaging, particularly the new FBI guy. The situation with new FBI guy could have gone a very different direction, but I like how Baldacci allows this character to be vulnerable and to have changed from a time when Pine previously knew him.

This novel is a bit more satisfying than the first one because her investigation into the kidnapping of her sister actually moves forward, and it ties in well to the new murders in her home town... at least on the surface.

This was a nice way to round out the year as the last few chapters …
