That book was a battle. On one hand there was so much perfectly balanced tension (especially in the beginning) that it kept me on edge and reading. It was delicious. On the other hand it all felt flat. There was so much missing depth. If earth managed to send several space ships out, I expect earth to be far more evolved than it was before. But Europe was just the same. Kauffman and Spooner never have been here, and you read that. The distances did not work for example. And that was just sad. They could have exchanged the names of the cities and it would all have been the same. The disease part was unrealistic, out of nowhere and did not feel real or scary at all. They were not able to sell me the last 50% of the book. It was just something made up so they could …
