Paul reviewed The Downing Street years by Margaret Thatcher

If you want to fully understand behind the scenes of politics in 1980s Britain, then you have to read this book, written by the woman who was PM for the whole decade. Unfortunately Thatcher is not the best writer, and at over 800 pages in a tiny font it is a slog to get through (her official biography by Charles Moore is far superior), and of course it is told from an unrepentant ‘I was right about everything’ point of view. Biased, boring and bloated, but essential nonetheless.
