The warrior Cù Chulainn has tied himself to a tall standing stone so that he is standing as his enemies approach. He has been mortally wounded and is armoured as he holds his his sword up high, though he can't quite manage lifting up his shield, which leans on the ground beside him.

In Welsh folklore, two of the activities with the closest ties to the Otherworld were singing songs and raising pigs. Many wizards (such as Gwydion and Bladud) were also bards and swineherds, and many bards (such as Taliesin and Tristan) were reinvented as wizards.
