In Welsh folklore, two of the activities with the closest ties to the Otherworld were singing songs and raising pigs. Many wizards (such as Gwydion and Bladud) were also bards and swineherds, and many bards (such as Taliesin and Tristan) were reinvented as wizards.

#introduction (not new to Mastodon)
Hello! I'm an artist and illustrator currently in Derbyshire, UK.
I'm interested in..well all sorts really, whatever grabs my attention. #History, #folklore, #art, #music (most genres), oddities and curio, #symbolism, #stories, #creativity, and the ephemeral scraps of half-thoughts...
A bundle of contractions, can be bribed with tea, should never be left unattended in a book shop...ever!
Since there’s an influx of new users, I’d best do another #introduction
I am a mildly witchy creative living in Cornwall, UK. Making my mark in words, art and photography.
Fantasy writer. Nature lover and history enthusiast. Often found on long walks in wild places.

An old favourite this week for #FolkloreThursday, a tale I first encountered on the inside wrapper of the popular 1980s horror themed sweets Mummies! The tale of Holbeach Gamesters!
Many water spirits seek to kill humans. And worse, some are even able to compel their victims to approach their waters so that they offer themselves up to the slaughter!
