I said of the first book, I do think it could be 10% better if it was 10% shorter. Unfortunately this one take that even furhter. Now at least every third paragraph feels like it's just repetition that adds nothing. So it could easily be 40% shorter and might be 50% better for it, I'll still give it 3 stars but it's close to a 2.

Near the end at the part with the priest, I wonder if the point is to illustrate that choosing religion is to choose death over life? As in choosing to say that the end of your life is more important than how you live your life?

This book at times had me on the edge of my seat wanting to know what would happen next, not an easy thing to do with a reader as jaded as me. It reminds me a bit of Game of Thrones but not as (grim) dark. Still, I do think it could be 10% better if it was 10% shorter. That is the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars.

This long book feel surprisingly short, which in itself is a certain kind of magic but not what these magicians would think of as "english magic". As close to five stars as it can come without going over 4,499....

Meh, 3/5 stars for this prequel from the realm of the elderlings....
