Gretchen Felker-Martin: Manhunt (Paperback, 2022, Tor Nightfire)

Review of 'Manhunt' on 'Goodreads'

Roger Ebert's review, DAWN OF THE DEAD (1979): "It is gruesome, sickening, disgusting, violent, brutal and appalling. It is also (excuse me for a second while I find my other list) brilliantly crafted, funny, droll, and savagely merciless."

My review, MANHUNT: See above.

Also, freaking brilliant.

Gabino Iglesias: The Devil Takes You Home (2022, Mulholland Books)

Review of 'The Devil Takes You Home' on 'Goodreads'

Gabino Iglesias calls his work "barrio noir," which is an almost perfect term, but it lacks a certain supernatural element that weaves through this spectacular work. Maybe "barrio urban fantasy horror noir?" Nah, too wordy.

Whatever you label it as, this novel is a gem. A dark, disturbing, blood-spattered gem.
