I read this book more than 30 years ago when it came out. I loved it then, but I haven't read it since. It was fun to read and listen to this again. I frequently would remember what was coming as the story progressed, which tells me the book made a huge impact on me when I read it as a teenager.
I love the characters in this book and their arcs, even the evil ones. I didn't remember that Roland had a cruel streak long before the armageddon and Army of Excellence. I liked the realization that his cruelty wasn't just about time and place.
Paul is one of my favorite characters. I love the subtle changes in his personality that let him finish his storyline in a way that he couldn't have at the beginning of the story.

McCammon does a great job of tying the various plot threads together by the end. I can't think of a loose end that I wish had been answered, but I do wish he hadn't killed so many of the characters I love.
