[guessing at the star rating / mining my old FB notes now that they are almost impossible to find]

wow. i loved this to bits. laugh-out-loud in spots, and so perceptive in others, it's worth reading a second and third time. the main character is so juvenile in her actions but here is a book that intelligently expresses how she can to be so arrested in her development, AND lays out perfectly the "why now?" of the plot (just as her own daughter is moving into the age of competition). i thought the whole thing was a breath of fresh air - so honest.

i didn't know the movie was based on a book but i'll be viewing it again as soon as i can. then likely read the book again :) maybe Atonement will finally have a companion on my list of movies that are as good (if not …
