Excellent Scifi

5 stars

Planetfall is a gripping sci-fi with a neurodivergent protagonist who is carefully and complexly depicted. The story is heavy with mystery and trauma, and rewards attention to its layers. It's one of few books I've decided to immediately read again.

Review of 'Planetfall' on 'Goodreads'

3 stars

I was a little torn on this one but it has ended up as a three star. It had good word of mouth etc but I felt it had serious pacing issues. Two major developments in the last 15 percent of a novel, turning a gentle story of first contact, colonisation and mental health into something entirely different is not a good way to go about things. Especially as those new plotlines aren't even properly defined. I can't see myself continuing with the series so I guess its not going to be a recommend.
