The central conceit of this book is that a shambling New York Jewish author who is down on his luck has Wodehouse's Jeeves as his valet.
I love Wodehouse so feared this would just be the vandalising of a much loved character for cheap laughs. I was glad to find its nothing of the sort. It is a farce of sorts, but it is tinged with the bleakness of our narrators situation.
This is a highly original and consistently hilarious book. It probably has more in common with Flann O'Brien than Wodehouse - and that's no bad thing.
