Are You My Mother?: A Comic Drama is a 2012 graphic memoir written and illustrated by Alison Bechdel, about her relationship with her mother. The book is a companion piece to her earlier work Fun Home, which deals with her relationship with her father. The book interweaves memoir with psychoanalysis and exploration of various literary works, particularly Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse. Its title alludes to the 1960 children's picture book Are You My Mother? by P. D. Eastman.

another literarily dense offering from bechdel, who I now hear has turned her first book, 'fun home,' into a musical that's winning all the New York awards. I think this book might be even better, structurally. each chapter opens with a dream that is expanded in that chapter, going forward or back in her timeline to make that theme's point. in fact, I think each chapter could work on it's own. her stuff is worth owning, and rereading, and using it as a jump-off point to start your own psychoanalysis.
