Pride of Baghdad is a graphic novel written by Brian K. Vaughan and illustrated by Niko Henrichon released by DC Comics' Vertigo imprint on September 13, 2006. The story is a fictionalized account of the true story of four lions that escaped from the Baghdad Zoo after an American bombing in 2003. The book won the IGN award for best original graphic novel in 2006.

based on a true story of 4 lions escaping the baghdad zoo during the armed conflict in iraq, there is alot of symbolism here:
pacifism vs rebelling,
the idea of HOW freedom is actually won (like if it's given - as opposed to taken, or fought for - is it real?)
and how to keep your humanity/morals in the face of war.

of course the lions are shot dead in the end (obliterated actually) and their beauty, and nobility, and tenacious loyalty are for nought.
pretty much the summation of war.
