crabbygirl reviewed Barney's Version by Mordecai Richler

i thought he was gona leave us hanging - wondering where the truth lay (i already felt 98% sure in my conviction)
but no - richler leaves us satisfied. and in so many ways: here's a book that is so steeped in his passions - hockey, montreal, literature, jews, the seperatist movement, hard drinking and cigar smoking - heck even the infamous duddy kravitz shows up for a reprise
i loved the tiny truths that fell out everywhere: see a man at his weakest and make an enemy for life, abhoring a character trait that we ourselves have, gratitude has a short shelf-life, the more we read, the more difficult it is to come up with an original thought... and although life may be 'absurd' (barney's word) it is worth hanging on to, regardless of our sorry state.
