[guessing at the star rating / mining my old FB notes now that they are almost impossible to find]

one town and one day; this book follows the minutia of numerous characters in the sleepy village of juliet, saskatchewan. it was fairly well done, the story anchored by the loss of a horse and it's finder riding that horse the livelong day - naturally reflecting on his past as travels, and meeting up with other town dwellers. it very much reminded me of 'the year we left home', with it's bleak landscape and financial hardship. the major theme seemed to be longing - whether for a roommate to return your quiet love, or to know the identity of your mother, or to be young again, or even for a break in the weather - most characters were in a holding pattern of malaise.
