Sweet Tooth is an American comic book limited series written and drawn by Canadian Jeff Lemire and published by DC Comics' Vertigo imprint. Dubbed by some as "Mad Max meets Bambi", it takes place in a mostly rural post-apocalyptic setting where some creatures are human/animal hybrids. Following the conclusion of the original series in January 2013, a sequel, subtitled The Return, began publication in November 2020, while a television series adaptation was released on Netflix on June 4, 2021.

In light of Netflix releasing Sweet Tooth as a series, I realised I'd better finish the comics before they ruin it for me. Surprisingly, there was only one volume left. I re-read volumes 4 & 5 to refresh my memory, as well as my reviews of them, and then read this one.
Hm. Although I gave volumes 2-5 a '4', this one only gets a '3'. The art is still original and great, but the ending was too predictable. I don't really fault the creator as endings are HARD. And a poor ending (for me) is no reason to not enjoy the bulk of a story (see I Am The Messenger by Markus Zusak)

in a post apocalyptic world (think McCarthy's The Road) everyone is either dead or dying except these hybrids of children/animals. felt alot like Walking Dead in that danger is everywhere and no one can be trusted (oh, and there was lots and lots of blood). this is an ongoing series, so i'll get out the next couple to see if it goes someplace original or interesting. otherwise, the boy with antlers on his head isn't enough to keep me coming back.
