crabbygirl reviewed The End of October by Lawrence Wright
Review of 'The End of October' on 'Goodreads'

published in april 2020 as the pandemic shut down the world, this book about a fictious lethal influenza virus was - at times - scarier than my concurrent read, The Walking Dead. Chockful of historical tidbits, it was a pleasure to passively learn so much about disease, vaccination history, and past pandemics. On top of that, forays into government, the organization of the Haj, and life on a submarine meant this author (of at least 10 non-fiction books) did intensive research before writing this piece of fiction.
but the last quarter of the book dissolved all the seriousness of the first three-quarters. Russian plots, global war, an evil scientist, and the pièce de résistance: the origin on this new plague can be blamed on bloody climate change. the new bogey man.
