another junior fiction - this time recommended by my daughter (i love that we are at the point of mutually sharing books and our love of books). i choose most of her books - mostly to avoid her reading nothing but Goosebumps - so it was validating that she turned around a told me to read this one - that i'd like it.
i did.
i liked the story, and more importantly, the way it was told. it was like The Time Travellers Wife jr.
- right down to the naked man, the need to carry things in your mouth when you time travel, and the importance of shoes

there something so straight forward about junior fiction; it can be so satisfying. the narrator notes continually that her mom's boyfriend doesn't have a key to the apartment; the mom hasn't given him one; the boyfriend often mentions how convenient it would be.
towards the end of the book, the narrator gives him the keys for christmas. of course! it's the child's decision to truly let him into her and her mom's life. and the mom letting her drive that decision showed how important the child is to the mom.
and all of this is revealed inside a book about time travel. who can know the future? can you change it?
you risk being hurt in the future if you let someone new into your life in the present; let them become important
