Half a king

Now, I am not really a fan of YA. It's just too, nice, for my taste and to see Abercrombie was planning to do it was a surprise. So, what makes this YA? No sex or sexual references. The double standard of the worst violence possible being allowed but a mention of the times when people come together to share the deepest intimacy? Not allowed.
Still, this was a decent page turner and Abercrombie's prose remains as sharp as ever. I realise authors write YA to make more money but he has definitely not stretched himself here by any measure.

This was a particularly well-executed novel, the endgame sufficiently twisted to keep me interested right up to the last. Though the final act wasn't disappointing, it filled expectations nicely and the world was detailed enough and interesting to read about.
