Frank Burns reviewed Ballistic Kiss by Richard Kadrey
Review of 'Ballistic Kiss' on 'Goodreads'
4 stars
A definite 4.5. A most enjoyable read.
As this series has gone on, Kadrey has moved away from 'Armageddon du jour' plotlines to exploring what it means to be someone like Sandman Slim. He is exploring the human cost of being an urban fantasy hero with the obvious PTSD being the least of it. There is a 20 page sequence about Sandman Slim getting ready to throw a party for his friends which, in context, is probably the strongest part of the book. How do you do something so humanly simple when your natural response to stress is to punch, stab or blow something up with a magic spell?
There are still celestial hi-jinks aplenty here with a strong plot anchored in the echoes of Hollywood in the seventies.
Obviously recommended and I am looking forward to the final one in the series.
