I thought I would 'cleanse my palate' with a little fantasy after a run of mostly space opera. Either I wasn't really in the mood for fantasy after all or this didn't really speak to me. I was also curious to see some of the stuff on which Tchaikovsky made his bones.
This is pre-Iron Age shapeshifting human/animals in a tribal society fantasy, which I also didn't realise going in. It just didn't really grab me, I fear. Decently enough executed and not an objectively poor book, it was just not ticking my boxes.
Cannot recommend.
