I have no idea how I found out about that book in August, but ever since I read the blurb I was crazy about it: Pirates and Sirens. That should ring some bells.
I loved the book, love the story, I feel pretty satisfied atm, because I will never get enough pirates. Still, I had some problems, that didn't make this one perfect. Christo decided to make a standalone out if it, although there was so much potential for a 2nd volume (finding that out broke my heart a little). Don't get me wrong. A standalone is awesome, we do not have enough standalones. Also Christo is a Debut author, it's a smart decisions to start slow, so that there won't be any pressure for a second book. But since she decided to make a standalone wouldn't it have been possible to add 50 pages to flesh the story out? …

But since she decided to make a standalone wouldn't it have been possible to add 50 pages to flesh the story out? To deepen the thought process of the characters? Or to fill some holes? Sometimes the story just felt a little to rushed. I wanted more.
But it's YA and I rather have a fast paced action story than a slow paced bedtime lullaby. I am also probably just sad and whiney because I just want more 😂 So here is hoping Christo's next one will be perfect and till then I will enjoy To Kill a Kingdom
