Gamearth was just a fantasy land created for a game until it actually became real. David wanted to destroy the made-up world in one last battle, forcing Melanie and the inhabitants of Gamearth to twist the rules enough for survival. What happens to a game when the players decide to quit? If you're a gamer, if you own a collection of many-sided dice, that's a question that might eat at you a bit if you think about it. And if creation is a kind of magic, what happens when you spend a long time creating a world, characters, rules for it, etc?

Though the characters were fairly shallow and the plot predictable, there was something about the idea of the book that kept me reading it. I wouldn't say it stood out for anything in particular, yet there's clearly something there if even the idea of a game world played by kids can hold my interest, which means I'll be carrying on with the series.
