I never love the American Abroad trope because it usually amounts to the tourist being insulting and obnoxious and, often, racist. 2020 me also did not love the use of r**d. I like Meg Cabot's books because they're "chicklit-y" and fun, but the characters don't seen as one dimensional as many others in genre do. This one ... not so much. It felt like there was promise and then everything just got tied up very quickly in last few pages which felt a little rushed and anticlimactic. Then again it's one of her earlier works.
