Generally, I liked this book just fine; however, I hate that it didn't have a self-contained story. This is part one of at least two parts, so if we reach a good resolution to the story in the next book, I think I'll take this series off my lists. The themes and events are still interesting but getting repetitive.
The action in the last third of the book is excellent. Smith did a nice job. Also, the political intrigue has ramped up again. I'm not sure why the political intrigue bugs me. I guess I just want people to get along. But that's not real life now and probably won't be in the future either.
The new characters are great, Kade and Gran Jefe. I like them both even at the end.
