I bought this for our kids a few years ago. What a strange book. Now having read it, I can't decide if the intended audience is children interested in history or adults interested in LEGOs. Maybe it's both. I have other problems with the book:
Outside of the architecture and landscaping, most of the LEGO scenes are simple and uninteresting. I think this is because the book is based on human stories, which can only be illustrated with LEGO human figures which look, for the most part, all alike through the centuries covered.
The texts are short but, as expected from the university professors who wrote them, the vocabulary is often far above a child's level.
I was surprised to find that in an old-fashioned way, many of the texts celebrate the authoritarian power of monarchy and the massacres of non-English people. The stories of the defeated and of the …
