As a person who is more interested in biographies, historical fictions and science fictions, I had a hesitation when picking up the first book I've ever read from Robert James Waller on romance. That was Bridges in the Madison County. As I enjoyed it, I moved on to read this second romance book, Slow Waltz in Cedar Bend.
In comparison to the stories on romance and relationships from the Asian writers, I see an important difference which I believe associated with the culture. Robert James Waller paints the lives of people as free souls who wander around as they please and make decisions purely based on their own feelings. Slow Waltz in Cedar Bend starts slowly with the mystery of Jellie Braden which leaves Michael Tillman and the readers wondering what she is all about. Jellie is not an ordinary woman married to a normal man. Her past is unbelievable …
