A great proto-surrealist/dadaist book of humor

5 stars

It's just a silly Edwardian satirical faux-autobiography, illustrated with engravings from a mail order catalog, but it's clearly had an influence on everything from Max Ernst to Terry Gilliam, right down to modern mail art and rubber stamp collage. Many of the jokes still hold up; the leapfrog gag makes me smile every time I see it, and the headless ghost visual pun is delightful. A very clever little book!
