I’m continually impressed by Adrian Tchaikovsky’s storytelling and the number of worlds and cultures he’s imagined.
This one looks like straightforward fantasy at the start but becomes more of an exploration of the role of heroes when war is done. There’s a sly thread of humour running through it all that adds to the characters and personalities all the way through.
Off to the library to look for book 2 :)
