Paul reviewed HITLER 1889 - 1936 by Ian Kershaw
Detailed and accessible
5 stars
A magisterial first volume covering Hitler's early years and rise to power. Whilst Kershaw doesn't draw any parallels with other dictators, demagogues and populists, you can clearly see the playbook used by Hitler's successors.
Although eminently readable without them, the endnotes are staggeringly detailed, taking up roughly 25% of the length of the book.
