I loved this book, which was a bit of a surprise since I've never been akin to historical fiction. McCammon was my favorite writer for a long time and then he stopped publishing in 1992, and a bookseller told me he was dead who isn't actually dead. I'm sure I was predisposed to like this book because it was a bit like finding an old friend. Either way, I enjoyed getting to know Matthew Corbett as an honorable young thinking man willing to do the right thing even when he's punished for it. The mystery is also engaging and solvable for readers paying attention to the details. I'll definitely be reading more in this series.
