Chuck Wendig: The Book of Accidents (Hardcover, 2021, Del Rey) 4 stars

Review of 'The Book of Accidents' on 'Goodreads'

2 stars

Horror is such a weird genre for me. I have always had too visceral a reaction to the genre to find it entertaining. Occasionally a slice of American Gothic (eg House of Leaves) does break through that reaction though. I had thoroughly enjoyed Wendig's last book (Wanderers) which was definitely horror-adjacent so I felt confident to give this one a try as it was clearly American Gothic as well.
After 16 days we have ended up with a 'did not finish'. The mid novel pivot into a many worlds scenario kind of finished me off.
This should not be seen as a criticism of the book, per se. It's a personal thing. This is clearly well written and if horror pushes your buttons then this will definitely work. However, my cardinal rule for a 'did not finish' is two stars.
Sorry, Chuck. It just wasn't for me.
