5 stars
Ahh, the Expanse comes to a close. 5 stars here for an excellent final chapter and for the series as a whole. Much as this series has become a bona-fide 'cultural phenomenon', I am still taken by the chutzpah of the authors starting a 'traditional' space-opera multi-book series when that kind of thing (2011!) was most definitely not in fashion.
The books had the odd dip along the way (I found number 4 a bit off) but I consistently looked forward to seeing what was next. Fully engaged with the characters and eagerly awaiting the next stage on their journey.
The finale was drawn on a suitably wide canvas but was nicely propelled by a simple grudge match between two people. Ok, these people had spaceships and one of them had an empire on their side but it was still just a very human grudge that was moving the plot along. A nice, grounding touch in my opinion. Every one of the main 4 protagonists had their arc resolved satisfactorily (to me) and it seemed all of the hanging threads were addressed.
Obvious recommend but to be honest, there is nothing surprising about that to anyone by now.
