This was taught, tight and enjoyable urban fantasy. There is nothing unique here, just a solid and enjoyable read in the genre. I did note the author avoided making his protagonist a Mary Sue and gives him quite a rough ride in this. This brutality added to the setting (and I would argue was required by it). The protagonist being a Mary Sue is often a trap this genre falls into it so it was nice to see someone deliberately sidestep it.
