On this day in history. The Declaration of Arbroath, probably the most important and influential document in Scottish history and considered by UNESCO to be of world significance, was dated 6 April 1320: making it 705 years old today. @UndisScot considered by UNESCO? Sounds like it’s an outlier. Obviously, nobody else in the world that thinks it’s important.
Because if it really was a world importance you would’ve said so and then said it’s designated the world heritage document by UNESCO .
Placing sovereignty with the people and not with the king was unheard of when it was written , and as far as I’m aware it’s the first document that delineates the relationship between King and people.

@UndisScot But also: "Much more historically significant was the implication elsewhere in the declaration that in future the King of Scotland could only rule with the approval of the people of Scotland. It was the first time anyone, anywhere, had thought about royalty in this way."
