I like stories with strong female leads. I like medieval (or, in this case, pseudo-medieval) settings. Beatrice is an important name in our family. Several friends read this story before me and loved it. For all those reasons I wanted to read this book and expected to enjoy it but it was just middling for me. Sophie Blackall's illustrations were good. I admit that I am not the target audience for this book since I am an adult. I still plan to give a copy to our daughter who will, I hope, enjoy it.
