another foodie book, so not for me (and maybe colonial in it's 'foodie-ness'. after all the main character gives up his (time intensive) cooking methods for French (time intensive) cooking methods. why would the euro-centric approach be preferred?) plus it was annoyingly instructive in indian culture and vocabulary - like in a pandering, kindergarden way: tiffins, salwar kameez, endearing -ji endings... stuff we all know after 3 cups of tea, slumdog millionaire, and rohinton mistry
