Review of "Dante's war" on 'Goodreads'

1 star

[guessing at the star rating / mining my old FB notes now that they are almost impossible to find]

finished it with one day to spare before bookclub!
but, alas, it wasn't really worth the effort :(
it's about italy in the second world war and all i know is that they switched sides in the middle so I looked forward to getting some knowledge/understanding.... but mostly i got the empty platitudes about 'evil' germans. if the friendship between germany and italy was so horrible - why did it last so long? the worst part is the author lives in my hometown. I would have LOVED to enjoy it - in fact I only read the back cover at the end of the book to discover she's from here.

and then I get the message that book club is cancelled for the month of December! boo hoo. I could have the skipped the whole waste-of-time.

(the good news is i just got Room from the library - that should be good holiday reading)
