A good old-fashioned thriller

I know next to nothing about the British Raj in Calcutta after WWI, so I found this tale both enjoyable and highly informative. The main characters are likeable, the story is told at a good pace, and the plotting is accomplished. Shame the identity of the murderer was telegraphed so clearly that guessed it after reading only 20% of the book...

@kevinrutherford Thanks to your review I ended up reading and very much enjoying this book (the ending was a bit "Bond villain explains the plot" for my liking, but didn't detract too much).

In return may I recommend "Finding Nouf" by Zoe Ferraris? It's the first in a trilogy of thrillers set in contemporary Saudi Arabia. Like "A Rising Man" it's a pretty unusual setting for a murder mystery and at least for me scratched a particular itch.
