3 stars

The first thing I noticed about this book is that the writing style is very different to anything I've read before. It took me about 50 pages to get used to this and I had to keep going back and re-reading some sentences in the early stages. It was worth perservering though to get a different reading experience and an different interpretation of what is considered "sci-fi" (in my opinion there's definitely some at the beginning, but the rest fades into the background).

There's a lot of abuse between the characters - verbal, physical, and sexual - and with one exception they're pretty unpleasant people (including the main character). Usually there's at least one character who I emphasise with or am routing for, but this wasn't the case here.

Overall, I've given this 3 stars because it was interesting to be exposed to a different style of writing and a different type of story to what I'm used to, even though I found the storyline deeply uncomfortable.
