My least favourite of the Discworld series so far, I think because I really didn't like the titular character. At least there was a Rincewind cameo though.

Fantastic book on the man who caused Rome so much trouble in the Second Punic War. Written by an academic and with lots of footnotes, but still accessible to an informed general audience.

Starts off (too) slowly and takes a long time to get going, the author could have culled 100 pages without affecting the story much. There's an unexpected twist at the end but it's not worth slogging through 500 pages.
Read for the Manchester science fiction book club.
Review of 'Masters of Doom: How Two Guys Created an Empire and Transformed Pop Culture' on 'Goodreads'

Great book on the history of id Software and related companies (e.g. Ion Storm). Well worth reading if you're interested in video games, although as it was published in 2004 it misses out more recent titles such as Doom 3 (mentioned towards the end) and the eventual end of id as an independent company.

Not a bad read, but didn't live up to all the hype for me. The main character started to grate on my nerves towards the end of the book, and the lack of an antagonist didn't work for me.

Made it through 250 pages and then gave up, slow plodding pace meant nothing particularly exciting had happened by this point. Acceptable for a first book in a trilogy but not the second.
