Icerigger is a 1974 science fiction novel by American writer Alan Dean Foster. Like many of Foster's science-fiction novels, Icerigger takes place within his Humanx Commonwealth fictional universe. The book's two sequels are Mission to Moulokin and The Deluge Drivers.

Love this ADF classic, flaws and all

4 stars

I've read a lot of ADF over the years, lots of puns, lots of world-building detail that other "older" sci-fi doesn't have. That typically means there's also some politics that doesn't age well as well.

I was assuming this would mainly relate to the indigenous population of the ice planet this trilogy is set on, but actually I think this does a good job of saying "well actually they can decide what they need" and there are various characters trying to exploit or support them.

The absolutely terrible part is the character of Colette, who is a fat woman. That's her character, she's fat. She literally can't be on a page without this being pointed out in description or by a character. It's weirdly remorseless.
