Stephen reviewed The Deluge Drivers by Alan Dean Foster
Not my favourite, but a nice finish
4 stars
On reflection, I don't like the third book as much. I still like the ice planet, although ADF seems less sure what the temperature is in different scenes. The plot does feel less believable though, and I don't mean in terms of the science (fiction) but the behaviours of people. It feels entirely like the author's struggling to fit in his set pieces, or tie it up, maybe?
Colette comes back, her descriptions are still "snarky" and "fat" and that's it. Ethan has mental anguish about whether it's okay to settle for a fat girl even if she's a billionaire. The other new female character is literally "love interest". I'm looking past that because of my nostalgia for these, new readers may not.
