Review of 'The System of the World (The Baroque Cycle, Vol. 3)' on 'Goodreads'

It's taken me 10 years to read this book. I started it as soon as it was published, having read the previous two books when they came out and thoroughly enjoyed them. But the pacing on this book is just not as good as the previous two. The first time I tried to read it I got bogged down at ~30% of the way through. It then got put aside for other books.

Over the following years I occasionally pondered reading it again, but was put off by having lost state of what is a fairly complex set of characters and plots. Eventually I managed to track down a short summary of the previous books and started reading this one from the beginning again.

Once again I got bogged down at around the 30% mark but persevered through it. The pace picked up and I enjoyed it through to around …
