"The year is 2312. Scientific and technological advances have opened gateways to an extraordinary future. Earth is no longer humanity's only home; new habitats have been created throughout the solar system on moons, planets, and in between. But in this year, 2312, a sequence of events will force humanity to confront its past, its present, and its future. The first event takes place on Mercury, on the city of Terminator, itself a miracle of engineering on an unprecedented scale. It is an unexpected death, but one that might have been foreseen. For Swan Er Hong, it is an event that will change her life. Swan was once a woman who designed worlds. Now she will be led into a plot to destroy them"--

I think Kim Stanley Robinson has become an important writer. I don't usually talk in these terms about authors. How good they are? Yes. How much I like them? Yes. Possibly how significant they are to me, personally. But rarely do I do what I'm about to and say that a writer is highly skilled, ambitious, entertaining and discussing issues of ever increasing urgency and importance to the whole of humanity - and that humanity isn't listening and needs to.

As usual with Kim, great world building and science fictional speculation. Hence the three stars but the characters were off and the plot kind of didn't make sense at some points. A decent read but nothing to get excited about. Don't see why it got a Nebula though, it's not strong enough for that.
