"Nearly eighty years after its release, the Marx Brothers film Duck Soup remains one of the most influential pieces of political satire in history. In Hail, Hail Euphoria!, bestselling author Roy Blount Jr. tells the history and making of Duck Soup, examining the comedica genius of the Marx Brothers in their finest hour and nine minutes"--Page 2 of cover.

A DVD commentary track in book form

At a mere 145 pages, this is a very, very quick read -- I started in the AM in a doctor's waiting room, and finished this afternoon. It's more like a DVD commentary track than anything else, with the structure being a scene-by-scene breakdown of the film with frequent digressions, anecdotes, and silly footnotes. Blount is clearly having a lot of fun here, particularly when he informs us how the French subtitles deal with English wordplay, or when he quotes the bad puns invented by his inner Chico.

Pulled this off my shelf after rereading Foxx Nolte's "Boundless Realm" (about the Walt Disney World Haunted Mansion) which she said in an interview was inspired by "Hail, Hail..."
