Jade, the mysterious and magical substance once exclusive to the Green Bone warriors of Kekon, is now known and coveted throughout the world. Everyone wants access to the supernatural abilities it provides, from traditional forces such as governments, mercenaries, and criminal kingpins, to modern players, including doctors, athletes, and movie studios. As the struggle over the control of jade grows ever larger and more deadly, the Kaul family, and the ancient ways of the Kekonese Green Bones, will never be the same.

Perfect conclusion to a great series

5 stars

Wow. This really wraps up the series perfectly, with a lot of sadness and some hope. I continue to be in awe of Fonda Lee's ability to make me care about a bunch of violent gangsters - this really isn't a genre I usually go for but she hooked me in and kept me reading. And I continue to love the image of Janloon and wish I could visit it for real - the tourist guide appendix is a very nice touch.

5 stars

Yep, 5 stars for this and the whole series.
The elevator pitch for this series was surely the Godfather meets urban fantasy. For me, however, this was more one of those sprawling family sagas that were so common in the 1980's (and that teenage me probably read a few of) with added magic/superpowers. A guilty pleasure then, to be sure, but delightfully delivered here and now.
The reason I have rated all of these books so highly is the characters. You really were carried with them on their life's journey and the writing always had that 'want to know what happens next' quality.
A special note here on this third and final entry in the series is that Lee really stuck the ending. You can tell real care was taken to finish properly. A satisfying book was delivered here but a proper ending to the series as well.
Highly recommended.
